Baylor’s Matt Mayer Named Preseason All-Big 12 First Team; Kendall Brown Earns Freshman of the Year

A glaring omission of Adam Flagler

MLB: Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers Raymond Carlin III-USA TODAY Sports

The Big 12 announced its preseason team. The team is voted on by the league’s coaches.

Because of a tie, six players made the team.

Matthew Mayer, Remy Martin (Kansas), David McCormack (Kansas), Ochai Agbaji (Kansas), Marcus Carr (Texas) and Terrance Shannon (Texas Tech) comprised the team.

James Akinjo, Baylor’s starting point guard and an Arizona transfer, earned honorable mention honors.

Kendall Brown was named the league’s freshman of the year. He’s the first Bear to earn that honor. Quincy Miller split Freshman of the Year honors with LeBryan Nash following the 2011-2012 season.

Adam Flagler not even earning honorable mention is a ridiculous snub. I’ll have a long profile out on him tomorrow.

If I’d voted, my team would have been Mayer, Flagler, Agbaji, McCormack and Carr. I would have picked McCormack for Big 12 Player of the Year because he should feast as Kansas’s best big man.
