The No. 2 ranked Baylor Bears take on the TCU Horned Frogs this Saturday in Fort Worth. The game will be televised on ESPN and tip-off is at 2:00 PM. Below are a few things to watch for in this rivalry game.
1.) Depth against Depth - I don’t believe that TCU is in the same conversation as Baylor as far as top benches in the country, but it’s solid nonetheless. They’ll play 9 guys and in a sense they remind me of the Bears because you can usually count on at least 1 or 2 players in their backcourt having a nice scoring game. It’s going to take a nice defensive effort to keep their guards in check.
2.) Defending Keven Samuel - With the start of Big XII play, competition has obviously picked up. We saw Iowa state and Oklahoma showcase talent that had been missing all throughout non-conference action with the exception of Illinois. I’m still a little worried about how well our bigs are going to match up with some of the better scoring posts in the league. At times, Solomon Young seemed to be having his way underneath against the Bears and it won’t be any easier tomorrow. The Horned Frogs have a true double/double guy in Kevin Samuel. It should be a nice test for Flo Thamba and JTT.
3.) Atmosphere in Fort Worth - Baylor has not won in Fort Worth since 2017. Last year it was Desmond Bane that caught fire and went 5-8 from beyond the arch. This year the Bears will have to stop RJ Nembhard from doing the same. He has posted 20+ points five times already this season. Of course, in a normal year a game like this would be a sellout, but I’m not sure what kind of energy to expect in the arena tomorrow.
