Big 12 MBB Preview: 1/16

One conference game has been postponed, but the Bears are set for a top 15 BU-TT matchup tomorrow!

NCAA Basketball: Baylor at Texas Christian Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

#6 Kansas vs. Iowa State

Saturday, January 16th 1:00 PM CT, ESPN+

Usually, #6 Kansas (10-3, 4-2) facing off against Iowa State (2-7, 0-5) would be a primetime, must watch game. However, Iowa State has plummeted to the very bottom of the Big 12 and Kansas might be working its way out of the Big 12 title hunt with their recent loss to Oklahoma State. Even though Kansas looked pretty bad against the Cowboys, they should still be able to dominate the Cyclones in Lawrence. Jayhawks by double digits.

#2 Baylor @ #15 Texas Tech

Saturday, January 16th 3:00 PM CT, ESPN

This BU-TT game is huge when it comes to the Big 12 title race. #2 Baylor (11-0, 4-0) is the favorite to win the Big 12 but this is almost possibly their stiffest competition to date. #15 Texas Tech (11-3, 4-2) just knocked off the Longhorns and are on a three game winning streak. Their last loss came to Oklahoma State and their only other conference loss was by one point to Kansas. The Red Raiders have combined veteran talent with transfer skill to create a team to be reckoned with in the Big 12. I like Baylor here, who has had extra time to prepare for this game and has not had a game come within single digits. But this might still be closer than most Bears fans would be comfortable with.

78-75 Baylor

#4 Texas vs. Kansas State

Saturday, January 16th 7:00 PM CT, LHN

#4 Texas (10-2, 4-1) is fresh off of their first conference loss to Texas Tech. They now host Kansas State (5-8, 1-4) who is on a three game losing streak. While Texas didn’t look great in their loss to the Red Raiders, they should be able to bounce back just fine in this game against the second worst team in the conference. Texas wins this by close to, if not more than, 20 points.

78-59 Texas

Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State

Saturday, January 16th 7:00 PM CT, ESPN2

The first iteration of Bedlam this season comes tomorrow as Oklahoma (7-4, 3-3) travels to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma State (9-3, 3-3). The Cowboys are surely still soaring high after their victory over Kansas. Oklahoma just got a massive, blow out win over TCU where they won by 36 points. Both teams have looked up and down this season, but I think I like Oklahoma State here given the homecourt advantage and how well the elite freshman Cade Cunningham has been playing.

75-71 Oklahoma State
