The #6 Baylor Lady Bears notched a massive road victory Thursday, knocking off the #1 UConn Huskies, 74-58. This puts Baylor at 12-1 on the season, with their only loss coming to then #5 South Carolina when Lauren Cox was out with an injury. With Lauren Cox back, the Lady Bears look in prime shape to defend their national title.
The UConn Huskies were one game away from tying the D-1 record for a home winning streak, which the Lady Bears cut short. NaLyssa Smith put up a double double, scoring 20 points and nabbing 12 rebounds. Te’a Cooper led Baylor in scoring with whopping 27 points and Lauren Cox contributed a strong 16 points.
UConn kept it close for most of the game, but Baylor never let the Huskies take a lead in the second half. This win should go a long way toward another #1 tournament seed as the Lady Bears look to defend their national title.
