With Lynn Swan resigning as USC’s athletic director, Mack Rhoades was immediately mentioned as a possible candidate.
Names USC will be/has been interested in: Baylor’s Mack Rhoades, Jenn Cohen, Rob Mullens, Nova’s Mark Jackson, Whit Babcock and BC’s Martin Jarmond. G5: Temple’s Pat Kraft, UNLV’s Desiree Reed-Francois and Nevada’s Doug Knuth. If UNC’s Bubba Cunningham wanted it, he’d have got.

Rhoades has done an excellent job at Baylor. He hired Matt Rhule, and the football team is certainly trending upward. Rhoades also was a major player in Baylor’s announcement of a new basketball venue. That should open in 2021. He landed Brian Boland to coach tennis. And he has Scott Drew and Kim Mulkey under contract for years.
The Trojans would understandably by interested. But Rhoades told ESPN 1660’s David Smoak, in their excellent weekly chat on that program, “I’m not leaving.”
