The Bears won a thriller in Waco on Tuesday night, defeating Iowa State 73-70. Makai Mason led the Bears with 25 points and received plenty of help from his teammates.
I think tonight’s game encapsulated what the Bears envisioned their team would look like in the preseason. Clark and Mason would lead the scoring, McClure would make a clutch Senior play as he did with the offensive rebound, and a young newcomer would provide energy from off the bench. Tonight it was Bandoo that lifted his team when they needed it most. His 13 points led the bench in scoring. I also want to quickly mention something that may have went unnoticed. Mario Kegler showcased his ability to be disruptive on the defensive end. I think he had 3 steals on the night; when I was in school we called those type of steals “pick pockets.”
My hope is that this win can help energize a crowd come Saturday afternoon. This team is beginning to gain some real confidence and a win against Kansas could be the next step in their bid to go dancing in March.
