Fields Set for IAAF World U20 Championships - Baylor University, USATF junior 400-meter champion Howard Fields III will represent Team USA at the IAAF World U20 Championships, which begin Tuesday and continue through Sunday, at Tampere Stadium in Tampere, Finland.
The All-American and USATF Outdoor Champion will compete in the 400 meters preliminaries on Wednesday at 3:20 a.m. CT. The semifinals will take place at 11:40 a.m. CT on Thursday, followed by the final at 12:35 p.m. CT on Friday.
The meet features the future of USA Track & Field as 1,462 athletes from 158 countries compete in Tampere.
Coming into the meet, Fields has the world's fourth-best qualifying time at 45.50. His title-winning time broke his previous personal best of 45.66 and helped him qualify for Team USA at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships held June 15-17 in Bloomington, Ind.
Jamaica's Christopher Taylor holds the top qualifying time heading into the preliminaries at 44.88.

Freshman All-American Howard Fields III capped off the meet by winning the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 45.50 out of lane six. With his winning time, Fields qualifies for the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, running July 10-15.
He qualified for the final with a 46.41 for the third-best time in the first round.
