Take Five With Jerry - Baylor University Official Athletic Site, Director of Sports Journalism Jerry Hill gives his five takes (plus one) for a busy April 6-8 weekend that has baseball and softball on the road and track hosting the Baylor Invitational on Saturday:
1. Road to Tokyo. With the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo just around the corner, come out to the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium for Saturday's Baylor Invitational to check out a host of Olympic hopefuls that includes junior quarter-miler Wil London, a silver medalist in the 4x400 relay at last summer's World Championships.
2. Top-25 showdowns. Hurd Tennis Center will host a top-25 matchup between the No. 21 Baylor women (11-10, 1-3) and #15 Texas Tech (13-4, 2-1) at 5 p.m. Friday, while the No. 19 Baylor men (17-4) open conference play on the road with matchups against #16 Oklahoma (15-2) at 6 p.m. Friday and #14 Oklahoma State (18-3-1) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
3. Life on the road. The baseball team (14-13, 3-6) starts a seven-game road swing with a series at Texas (17-12, 6-3) with games at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Sophomore lefty Cody Bradford (3-2, 2.95) might be back in the rotation after missing the OU series with an injury.
4. Back to winning ways. The #16 softball team (21-9, 0-3) picked up an 8-5 midweek win at Abilene Christian and will play a three-game series this weekend at Texas Tech (21-15, 1-5). Going into Wednesday's game at ACU, senior centerfielder Jessie Scroggins led the nation with a .521 batting average.
5. Cooper's back. Playing in his first tournament of the spring, sophomore All-American golfer Cooper Dossey returns from a wrist injury for the Aggie Invitational that begins Saturday at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. Six of the nation's top 12 teams are in the field, including No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 10 Baylor.
+1. Rematch and redemption. In a rematch of the last three NCATA National Championships, all won by Baylor, the top-ranked Baylor Bears (7-0) face the No. 4 Ducks (4-2) at 7 p.m. CDT Sunday in Eugene. Oregon handed coach Felecia Mulkey her only loss in four years at Baylor last season (Feb. 25, 2017) at Matthew Knight Arena.

Track & Field Welcomes 13 Teams to Baylor Invitational - Baylor University Official Athletic Site, Baylor track and field will host its first meet of the outdoor season with the Baylor Invitational on Saturday, April 7 at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.

On a night when starter Nolan Kingham allowed four runs and lasted just two innings, the Texas bullpen showed up in a big way. After freshman Matt Whelan escaped a bases loaded, no out jam in the third thanks to a brilliant double play started by David Hamilton, the offense began to claw back into the game.

RGIII signs with Baltimore Ravens, BaylorLariat, Former Baylor quarterback and 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III has signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens as announced Wednesday.
Griffin last played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns in 2016, appearing in just five games and throwing for 866 yards and two touchdowns.
Injuries had derailed the career of the once promising NFL prospect, the latest a shoulder injury in the Browns’ 2016 season opener that caused Griffin to be placed on injured reserve.
After a year away from football following being released by Cleveland in March of 2017, Griffin signed a one-year deal with the Ravens to serve as the backup for Joe Flacco, a 10-year veteran and Super Bowl winning quarterback in 2012.
Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh said he is excited about bringing Griffin on to the team’s roster and feels like he is one of the best available backup quarterbacks in the league.
“He’s a very talented quarterback who’s had a lot of success in this league early on,” Harbaugh told reporters on Wednesday. “We felt like we needed a No. 2 quarterback. I’m pretty excited about this player. I’m really feeling like we got a steal.”
