In a game where the lead went back and forth like a ping pong ball, two things remained constant throughout. First, at the end of each quarter, Baylor had the lead. Second, at the end of each subsequent quarter, that lead had increased. Final, Baylor 77 - 69 Texas, an eight point lead. When you go out and score more points than the other team, every quarter, what do they call you?
Picture perfect.

If we had 46 more quarters to play, Baylor might have won by 100 points. We’ll have to settle for 39. That’s the margin of victory for the Lady Bears over the Longhorns through three games this season, 39 points.

Guess what? Kalani Brown can’t jump. That fact probably cost us a trip to the Final Four last year. Late in the fourth quarter, score tied in the Elite Eight against Mississippi State, 3 seconds left on the clock, Kristy Wallace arches the perfect inbound pass to Kalani Brown. All Kalani has to do is jump up and snatch it out of the air and shoot a short range jumper. Instead, she takes a step backward to catch the pass which allows the Mississippi State player to take a step forward into position to swat the ball away without fouling. Kristy Wallace gets credited for a turnover and the game goes to overtime and the Bears lose 94-85. In last night’s game against the Longhorns, Coach Mulkey knew that Kalani’s legs were gone. She wisely switched post positions between Kalani and Lauren Cox. With Baylor leading by only one point and less than two minutes remaining in the game, Lauren got to go to the foul line and made six consecutive free throws to seal the game. Coach Kim Mulkey said after the game:
“We didn’t do a good job of was offensive rebound. You can’t let ‘em just go to the offensive boards. Good grief. They can leap out of the gym. That’s where you saw a lot of our fatigue, put Kalani in a position at 6-7 and she just couldn’t jump. To just gut it out and give up that many offensive boards and still win the game is special.”

OBF Prediction: I’ll go out on a limb here and say that this victory clinches for Baylor a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and that they will get placed in the Kansas City region. UConn will get Albany, Louisville will get Lexington and Mississippi State will have to travel to Spokane.
The 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship bracket will be announced Monday, March 12 on ESPN at 6 p.m. CT.
