It’s an exciting time for the Baylor football team. A strong showing on the road against what is now (allegedly) the 7th best team in the country last weekend has led to a ton of positive momentum and excitement among fans. Maybe you thought with the bye week coming up there wouldn’t be much to get excited about other than some pictures from a practice or 2. Well you’d be dead wrong.
An email for Homecoming ticket sales that went out to certain groups currently has #BaylorTwitter set afire with hype and intrigue. It features the following image:
That’s right, friends. A SAILOR. BEAR. HELMET. Could this be real? Will we finally see the legendary Sailor Bear make an appearance for what will be our 7 millionth Homecoming game?
The Sailor Bear logo is a crowd favorite throwback that traces its origins back to at least the 1950’s. It’s popped up on t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, and even one of this year’s Baylor Christmas ornaments but Sailor Bear has never been used on an official football helmet. However, that fact hasn’t stopped fans for calling to bring a Sailor Bear helmet to life, and we’ve seen some amazing mock ups for it in the past.
We don’t have any details, we don’t have any information, we just have hype and a lot of questions. Is the helmet real? Will there be new jerseys to go along with it? Is this all a cruel joke? Is nothing sacred? Where’s the beef? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? Right now we don’t know. But it’s exciting to think about all the possibilities.
