Chuck Mitchell announced via his Instagram account that he will be transferring from Baylor. Mitchell had three years of eligibility remaining.
After redshirting his first season with the program, Mitchell took the court last season. His best moment last season was probably the West Virginia game in Waco. Manu Lecomte was out with injury. Mitchell stepped up with 18 big minutes and the Bears picked up the win while looking far different from the squad that was blown out in Morgantown.
This news is pretty surprising. Most players transfer at the end of a season—not at the end of a summer. Mitchell also had a great shot at playing major minutes after Al Freeman’s transfer. Now he’ll either head the junior college route or sit out for a season.
We’ll do a bigger breakdown of what this means for the basketball team in the next few days. Drew and his staff have built a consistent winner. Sadly Mitchell will not be part of that going forward.
