Matt Rhule announced he would not be recruiting football players that leave the state, which many rightfully noted was a reference to IMG Academy.
Several folks have takes on this. None better than Shehan Jeyarajah of Baylor DieHards:
Rhule is new to the state of Texas. Talking about the dangers of IMG Academy is one of the smartest things he could do at this point. Speaking at the THSCA convention is a way for Rhule to endear himself to Texas coaches.
For a different perspective, Jason Dill of the Bradenton.com offers:
So, Rhule’s position isn’t going to last.
If it does, the chance at securing the services of any top recruit that plays at IMG Academy now or in the future will go to someone else. And Rhule can’t afford to rule out elite-level recruits in the wake of Baylor’s recent football scandal and in the face of a significant rebuilding task on the field and off.
Baylor has a new Hall of Fame class. From KXXV:
Highlighted by NCAA champions Benjamin Becker, Steffanie Blackmon and Jennifer Jordan Washington, Baylor’s 2017 Hall of Fame class includes eight outstanding former student-athletes representing six different sports.
The 58th class of inductees also includes Ron Francis and Bill Hicks from football, Bill Payne and Jeff Jackson from track and field and Melanie Hagewood Willhite from women’s golf.
