Recruiting heats up

NCAA Football: West Virginia at Baylor Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Football Recruiting:

Baylor has picked up five commitments in three days. Steve Wiltfong of 247 had this to say (free):

On Monday morning I wrote that Baylor was putting together the fastest class in the nation.

Late that evening, another freak athlete joined the fold.

The nation's most athletic prospect to date as a matter of fact.

E.J. Holland of 247 and a Texas guy said this (free):

3. Baylor run — No team is hotter on the recruiting trail right now than Baylor. The Bears landed four recruits on Sunday and added explosive defensive back Christian Morgan on Monday night. Baylor actually jumped all the way up to No. 17 in the 247Sports Composite national recruiting rankings. The fact that Matt Rhule has overcome the recent negative stigma associated with Baylor in such a short time period is nothing short of amazing.

Football:

Stephen Hawkins thinks Blake Lynch will break out:

WR Blake Lynch, sophomore. The speedy Lynch will get a chance to be a top receiving target sooner rather than later after KD Cannon and Ishmael Zamora both left school early, signing NFL free agent rookie deals after going undrafted last week. Lynch had 34 catches for 404 yards and three touchdowns last season behind his teammates who were 1-2 in the Big 12 for receptions per game.

Mitch Sherman of ESPN frames the QB job at Baylor as a three-person race. I think it’s Zach Smith’s to lose, but Sherman wrote:

The rundown: What began as a two-man competition between sophomore Zach Smith, star of a December bowl victory over Boise State, and Anu Solomon, the graduate transfer from Arizona, maybe -- just maybe -- heads into the summer as a three-man race. True freshman Charlie Brewer led a pair of touchdown drives in the spring game while Smith and Solomon displayed solid but unspectacular play. The battle is sure to rage well into August as first-year coach Matt Rhule examines all options.

Basketball:

Baylor basketball extended an offer to Armando Bacot, a 2019 big man and top 60 national player. Baylor figures to take several guys in that class, and Bacot would be a huge addition.

David Aldridge listed Johnathan Motley as the 9th best big man in the NBA Draft.

ODB Miscellaneous:

We plan to start a series of previews on every football player that we expect to see the field next season. That will start this weekend.

The mailbag will run Thursday. You can tweet me, the ODB account, hit us up on Facebook, or send us an email- ourdailybears@gmail.com. The mailbag tackles anything related to Baylor, food or history.
