Football:

New transfer QB Anu Solomon was profiled by ESPN’s Mitch Sherman:

Solomon was drawn to Baylor, he said, because of the success of former quarterbacks Robert Griffin III, Bryce Petty and Russell, in addition to wide receiver Corey Coleman. So he opted to broaden his search for a new school beyond UNLV, Hawaii, Fresno State and Nevada of the Mountain West, looking at North Carolina in addition to Baylor.

“Athletic and academic excellence,” Solomon said of Baylor. “And they have a Raising Cane’s. That’s a big deal.”

Baylor offered Nic McTear, a tight end and current Oklahoma State commit:

Basketball:

The team lost a tough game in Lubbock. Matt Mosley of SicEm365 highlighted Terry Maston’s big game:

Manu Lecomte was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. From Baylorbears.com:

Baylor junior guard Manu Lecomte has been voted the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Men’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week for a third time this season, the conference office announced Monday.

This marks Lecomte’s fourth Big 12 weekly award of the season. He was previously named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Nov. 14 and Jan. 3, and he earned Big 12 Player of the Week on Dec. 5.

Here he was before he fell victim to an awful technical foul call:

KU made an incredible comeback against West Virginia. Baylor basically needs to win out. If they do that, they have a decent chance to split the Big 12. Kansas still has to travel to Stillwater, but they’re almost assuredly not losing to Oklahoma, Texas, or TCU.

The margin for error is gone. Hopefully Al Freeman returns soon. Kansas rolled out the press late and destroyed West Virginia. They may be hesitant to do that much with their depth, but with KU and West Virginia coming up, Baylor will need Freeman back.
