Women’s Basketball
No. 9 Lady Bears Roll Past No. 16 Stanford - Baylor University Official Athletic Site, Baylor coach Kim Mulkey hasn't always been happy with the energy her starting lineup plays with to start games.
When Stanford's defense came out in a man-to-man defense and a post player behind her, Baylor junior All-American Kalani Brown's eyes immediately lit up.
"I didn't think they would play behind," the 6-foot-7 Brown said. "They're more of a three-quarter team. So, when they did play behind, I thought, `Wow, take advantage of it.'''
And she did . . . all day.
Brown dominates as No. 9 Lady Bears thwart No. 16 Stanford, wacotrib, There wasn’t much Stanford could do.
Kalani Brown continued to score at will against a Cardinal team ranked 16th in the country as the junior center finished with 28 points in Baylor’s 81-57 victory Sunday afternoon inside the Ferrell Center.
“Even with some things that they did – they called sandwich, where they put one in front and one behind – I was trying to find ways to get open. It took me a few plays to figure it out. But, as we went, I was just trying to figure out their defenses.”
Stanford women prove no match for No. 9 Baylor - SFGate, A month into the season, the No. 16 Stanford women’s basketball team is barely above .500. That’s almost unheard of in the Tara VanDerveer era.
Against Baylor (7-1), which was cheered on by a season-best crowd of more than 8,000 fans, the Cardinal struggled to find anything inside and made only 20 of 68 shots (29 percent), including just 10 of 38 three-point attempts (26 percent). Stanford didn’t lead, and after the first quarter the closest it got to the lead was eight points with 8:14 to go in the third.
“Kristy Wallace, no turnovers, almost played 40 minutes in the game, almost had a triple-double,” Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. “She didn’t try to do too much, she made the right passes, she made hustle plays. She may have had her finest game in her career at Baylor.”
Brice Cherry: Wins over Stanford, Kentucky could have lasting benefits for Lady Bears, wacotrib, During the grind of a college basketball season, it helps to suffer from short-term memory loss.
Win a game, lose a game. Either way, let it marinate for a moment, then forget about it. You’ll have another one in a matter of days.
The Lady Bears will practice again Monday. They’ll be back on the court for another game on Tuesday, as North Dakota comes to town. It’ll be time to turn the page again, as Kentucky and Stanford will be but a memory.

Three minutes into the game Baylor (7-1) was ahead 9-0, and the atmosphere inside the arena was giving the Lady Bears all of the energy they needed. Stanford (5-4) was playing sloppy, throwing the ball away, missing shots and losing rebounds to the height of Baylor’s Brown and Lauren Cox.

Trib All-Big 12 Football Team: Mayfield, Boesen receive top honors, wacotrib, Though Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer didn’t play until the fifth game of the season against Kansas State and didn’t start until the ninth game, he’s the Tribune-Herald’s freshman of the year.
Brewer put up solid numbers as a true freshman as he completed 68.1 percent of his passes for 1,562 yards and 11 touchdowns with just four interceptions. The former Lake Travis High School star guided the Bears to their only win against Kansas, a 38-9 decision on Nov. 4 in Lawrence as he hit 23 of 29 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns.
