Baylor rolled Texas Southern 80-60. Rather than do a full recap of the final game of non-conference (though shout-out to the Big 12-SEC Challenge), here are some takes:
Nuni Omot needs to keep shooting- He missed his first three 3-point attempts. That’s fine. Everybody misses. The Bears need Omot to be aggressive and shoot whenever he’s open.
Manu Lecomte has been very good- Yes, the competition level is not great. But Lecomte is moving well and if he has an inch, he fires. He went 6-of-9 from deep tonight.
Mark Vital’s activity on defense will win a game- He’s everywhere in Baylor’s zone. The Big 12 is bunched together with everyone ranked in the top 60 on KenPom. We’re getting a ton of close games, and Vital is going to make the difference in at least one.
Bring on the Big 12- The Bears schedule quite a few tough opponents, but the stretch against sub 250 KenPom teams gets boring. I don’t want to see Baylor lose, but I want to see them playing better competition. Every school schedules several games against teams they are substantially better than. Still, it’s exciting Big 12 play is about to begin.
