Zach Smith has made it official that he will transfer and use his last two years of eligibility somewhere else. David Smoak broke the news that Smith had sought his release last week.
Smith was an excellent representative for the school and stayed here while half the class defected. He wasn’t named the starter to open this season, but he took the job after Anu Solomon went out with a concussion. He had great moments at Baylor, including his 400+ yard performance in the Cactus Bowl victory over Boise State.
We wish Smith the best in the future. Charlie Brewer played well at the end of the season and seems to match the preferred offense at Baylor better than Smith. Gerry Bohanon has also committed and should be a force for the Bears. It makes a ton of sense Smith would transfer.
Smith has excellent arm strength and has been a fantastic person. He should be back as a starter somewhere soon.
