Baylor-Houston: What to Watch For

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-East Regional Practice Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Baylor plays Houston at noon today in the Ferrell Center. Tickets are just $5. The tickets benefit Hurricane Harvey relief.

Here’s what I’m interested in today:

*How well is Nuni Omot creating offense? Omot did well hitting 3-point shots at stretches last season, but the Bears need him to hit at a higher clip this season.

*Does King McClure look like he’s made a leap? McClure should be the most improved Bear this season. Hopefully he shows flashes of a big season.

*If nobody mentions Jake Lindsey’s dad is an NBA G.M., has Baylor really played a game?

*Has Terry Maston expanded his range? In an exhibition, you can take a few shots. Maston is money from 18 feet. Hopefully he can be from 21.

*Will Mark Vital dunk over a man? The Louisiana native is now eligible after red-shirting last season. His athleticism should be the best of a member of Baylor’s back-court since Deuce Bello.

*How does Baylor’s zone look with less length? The Bears played a little more man-to-man than zone last season. But even if that trend continues, they’ll still play some zone. The Bears have relied on giant front-courts while doing that. With Maston or Omot slotted to get minutes at the “4,” the Bears will probably look a little different in the zone.
