Daily Bears Reports 8/4: Seth Russell Lionized From Austin to Waco, Shelly Fanning Named to 2016 Big XII Preseason Team; #CampBU Begins Today!

Bears Anxious To Begin Fall Training

Baylor Football Training Camp begins today. Here are some tweets from yesterday evening.

Voice of the Bears John Morris has his first #CampBU interview with Head Coach Jim Grobe. They talk fall practice philosophy, special teams and more.

Baylor Title IX Coordinator, Patty Crawford encourages victims (and the media) to continue speaking publicly about their situations. WacoTrib has the story.

“We’re trying to build a platform for people to come forward and talk about some of the most difficult things anyone could talk about — and definitely that anyone could experience. So we can look at all this, and I can tell survivors, or you can tell them for me through your pieces, that your voice and your work and your concerns, no matter how consistent or inconsistent they are with what I know in my office or what we have, is not in vain. This is making a difference.”

According to WacoTrib’s John Werner in this article, there might not be a group of players in the nation more anxious to start preseason practice than Baylor Thursday afternoon. Baylor quarterback Seth Russell said:

“I have to give a positive image for Baylor. It’s not just me. It’s the guys here who don’t have a track record. The guys who have done the right thing and have set a positive image for Baylor.”

Mystatesman says that Seth Russell could be Baylor’s saving grace.

There are no distressing questions about Russell’s character.

He recently talked about the interactions he has had with the people who live in Waco, the Baylor students, the folks who attend Sunday services with him at Harris Creek Baptist Church.

“They’re just saying, ‘We’re praying for you,’ ” Russell said. “That’s the big thing in Waco and Baylor nation. They’re going to pray. Prayer is the most powerful thing you can do.

“Just walking through Waco, I’m not discouraged by what’s going on,” Russell added. “Guys coming up to you and saying, ‘I’m praying for you’ or ‘Can I pray for you right now?’ They’re taking 30 seconds for a quick prayer. It’s been very encouraging.”

Baylor Volleyball’s Shelly Fanning has been named to the 2016 Big XII Preseason Team. News Channel 25 has the story.

The Houston native and Cypress Ranch product impressed the league in her freshman season, earning All-Big 12 Second Team honors and being named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
