Soccer Wins
Baylor Soccer downs the Purdue Boilermakers 5-1 in home opener. KWTX TV has the game summary, stats and notes.
“Yeah, we talked about that in the locker room before the game – that we needed to set the tone early [after the lightning delay]. That we needed to continue that for 90 minutes, and I think we did that. I think that we came out early, set the tone, went at them right away and never backed down.” – Head Coach Paul Jobson
Volleyball Falls
Baylor Volleyball falls in four sets in season opener. They show spark but fall short to UT Rio Grande Balley.
BU was led by redshirt junior Katie Staiger, who finished with a career-high 28 kills and 15 digs. It was her first double-double since Sept. 3, 2014 against Texas State.
Senior setter Morgan Reed led all players with a career-high 56 assists and added 17 digs for her first career double-double as a Bear.
Junior libero Jana Brusek finished with a match-high 20 digs in the four-set loss.
Aqua Returns
Our Daily Bears Founding Manager, Mark Seymour (aka Aqua) who started this blog over four years ago now as sole manager, editor and contributor, is back after his summer hiatus and ODB’s big hitter has already posted his 5 Biggest 2016 Keys for Baylor Football.
I just watched and waited for that switch to flip on and the impulse to write about Baylor Football again to come back. Its back now.
I'm starting today with a fairly simple concept, the same one you see before basically every televised football game on any channel: the five major keys/issues for Baylor heading into the 2016 season. I thought about breaking things up between offense and defense and actually planned to do that. When I got started, though, I realized that pretty much all of the keys (and definitely the first two) are the same on both sides. The only difference is the names involved. So I decided to mash things together into one post that will hopefully generate some buzz among the Baylor faithful going into the last free weekend before Game Week begins again.
Welcome back Mark. The site ain’t quite the same without you.
Football
Mack Rhodes interview concludes Camp BU:
SBNation’s Andy Hutchins tells us everything we need to know about the College Football Playoffs. He tells of of Bowl rotation, line-up, scheduling and more for 2016.
It’s mostly the same — Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez, etc. — from 2015, with three departures and two arrivals. Former Southern Miss head coach Jeff Bower replaces former Air Force superintendent Michael Gould, and former Central Michigan head coach Herb Deromidi replaces former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese.
Former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, who was set to replace former Nebraska coach and AD Tom Osborne, stepped down and won’t be replaced.
Prognosticators extraordinaire, Our Daily Bears staff predictions for 2016. (Sorry BNT, maybe next year.)
