Petty is battling to stay on the Jets and earn the backup spot. The Jets have four quarterbacks after resigning Ryan Fitzpatrick. Smith and Petty are battling for the backup job, while rookie Christian Hackenberg seems assured to stay with the team after the Jets used a second round pick on the former Penn State QB.

Smith was just 6 of 13 for 47 yards tonight, but many believe Smith was ahead of Petty entering this game.
