Randy Petersen of the Des Moines Register reports the Big 12 could have an expansion decision on July 19th:
Whether to expand the Big 12 Conference or not expand could be determined within the next two weeks, commissioner Bob Bowlsby said Tuesday.
Bowlsby said a July 19 meeting of the league’s Board of Directors could be the day of determination – whether the league votes to add additional schools, or whether the current round of expansion talk ends.
Dennis Dodd of CBS listed the hot seat rankings for college coaches and listed Jim Grobe:
Jim Grobe, Baylor (5): The school itself has made sure ol' Grobie made this list. They're calling him an "acting" coach in his role replacing Briles, not an "interim." That means, theoretically, he has a chance to become the permanent coach. To do that, the former Wake Forest head guy (and 2006 national coach of the year) has to recruit like a mother, innovate on offense and keep Baylor a national power amid a scandal that doesn't look like it's close to being played out. The Bears will compete in the Big 12 this season, but the bottom could fall out real quick, particularly after Baylor lost so many signees. How do you recruit when you don't know who your coach is going to be going forward?
Kevin Lyttle of the Austin-American Statesman said their voters disagreed on where to place the Bears in the preseason poll:
In regard to Baylor, voting was all over the map. The Bears, dealing with a far-reaching sexual assault scandal on campus, received top-15 votes from five voters and absolutely no notice from three other staffers.
Dan Stack of Today’s U analyzed Xavier’s non-conference hoops schedule and had this to say about Baylor:
Although Baylor loses Taurean Prince and Rico Gathers, the Bears return Alerik Freeman and Johnathan Motley while welcoming Miami transfer Manu Lecomte. The Musketeers will surely be tested in this contest away from the Cintas Center.
