Logan Verrett, a former Baylor Bear, will take over in the Mets rotation now that Matt Harvey is injured. From Trey Greggory of the Waco Tribune-Herald:

The New York Mets found themselves short of one star pitcher when Matt Harvey’s season ended after he was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome. But Harvey’s loss was former Baylor pitcher Logan Verrett’s gain. Verrett will get first crack at replacing Harvey in the starting lineup.

The Oklahoman’s Barry Tramel says the Big 12 will be seriously weakened if Baylor football declines:

That helps the Sooners and Cowboys in the short term. But in the long term, it could hurt. You are defined by your competition. If no team steps into Baylor's stead, the Big 12 brand will be hurt. The Big 12 brand needs to be enhanced, not diminished. If Wisconsin falls in the Big Ten pecking order, no big deal. If Auburn stumbles in the SEC, another behemoth moves right in. But if Baylor declines, it's not automatic that another heavyweight is ready.

Former Bear Levi Norwood talked with Mike Prisuta of steelers.com.

What is your proudest football moment or memory?Athletically, it’s probably winning two Big XII championships in college, kind of turning around the program at Baylor.
