The ten day layoff was not a problem for the Bears as they cruised to an 89-59 win over Southern.
Johnathan Motley opened with the first seven points of the game. Motley scored from everywhere, and led the Bears in scoring. Motley finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Nuni Omot played his first minutes as a Bear tonight. Omot earned a few more minutes tonight than he may get going forward because Terry Maston sat out because he was late to the game. Omot finished with eight points.
The Bears did well on the defensive end. They mixed zone and man-to-man while stifling Southern’s three point shooting. The Bears defense led to 19 Southern turnovers.
Jo-Lual-Acuil finished with four blocks, which should help him maintain the top block rate on KenPom.

Baylor took a 52-26 lead into halftime. Southern pushed the Bears for the first five minutes of the second half, but the Bears quickly reestablished their commanding lead.
King McClure and Jake Lindsey had solid games. McClure had 10 points, while Lindsey found guys throughout the night, finishing with 8 assists:

With the best resume in the country, the Bears did not find out much about themselves tonight. They learned they have the potential to make the Final Four in the Bahamas, not in Waco tonight. But the Bears notched an easy victory and flashed the talent they have that can push Kansas. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
For now, Baylor is 9-0. Next up is Jackson State at 5:00 on Saturday.
