Johnathan Motley joins four guards on the preseason All-Big 12 Team. Motley is joined by Frank Mason and Devonte Graham of Kansas, Jawun Evans of Oklahoma State and Monte Morris of Iowa State. Morris is the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year. Motley was not a unanimous selection because some people are wrong.
Manu Lecomte has won Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. Lecomte is a junior and transfer from Miami. Ish Wainright described Lecomte as, “Brady Heslip,” because he has been dominant from three-point range in practice. Lecomte shot 43% from deep as a sophomore at Miami.
The only change I would have from the awards list would be selecting Graham as Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year because of how dominant he was at the end of last season. Morris is a fine selection though, and one I can totally understand.
The only other surprise for me was that Phil Forte did not make the honorable mention list. But everyone on that list is pretty deserving.
The Bears open the season at 6:00 P.M. on November 11th against Oral Roberts.
