Baylor redshirt junior Katie Staiger was named the Big 12 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. From Baylor Bears dot com.

The outside hitter from Plano, Texas, earned her third offensive POTW award from the conference this year, matching Anna Breyfogle (3, 2007) for the BU record for single-season weekly honors.

Staiger used the lone match on the week for BU to put on a show for a national television audience, launching 23 kills in a 3-0 sweep over TCU. The win for the Bears was the team’s third top-20 RPI win in the previous four weeks.

Staiger matched her previous kill mark of 23, dropped in a 3-0 sweep of No. 23 Kansas State, becoming the first BU player since Elisha Polk in 1999 to hit 23 or more kills in a three-set match twice in the same season.

Her trio of selections in 2016 ties for the fourth-most in Big 12 history by one player in a single season, becoming the 10th player to claim three or more offensive POTW honors in the same season.

The Baylor squad picked up its fifth weekly honor of the season, including four from the Big 12, with Staiger earning three conference and one national offensive POTW awards. Additionally, Jana Brusek earned Big 12 Defensive POTW on Sep. 26.

The five total weekly honors and four conference awards both set BU program records, surpassing the previous record of four total (2009) and three conference honors (1999, 2007, 2009).

For Staiger, it is the third conference offensive award of her collegiate career and her fifth weekly award overall, after earning Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Sept. 29, 2014 and AVCA National Player of the Week earlier this season.

Football

BU’s been ranked in a school-record 56 straight AP Polls, FBS’ 4th-best streak. Baylor and Alabama are the only teams to beat at least 1 Top 10 team in each of last 5 years. The Bears have won 6-straight dating back to last year’s bowl - tops in Big 12 & tied for 7th in FBS. BU has started 5-0 in each of the last 4 years - a program first and the only FBS program to do so.• Baylor is looking to start 6-0 as well as 3-0 in Big 12 play for the 4th-straight year. Baylor big-play receiver KD Cannon could be back for the 11th-ranked Bears this week. From Fox Sports:

Cannon missed Baylor's win Oct. 1 at Iowa State because of a groin injury that also limited him in the previous game.

Cannon has 27 catches for 370 yards and four touchdowns in his four games. After nine catches for 213 yards and two TDs at Rice on Sept. 16, he had only three catches for 18 yards against Oklahoma State the next week before missing the Iowa State game.
