WEATHER FORECAST: Sunny, high of 93 with 5–10mph winds from NE, 3% chance of rain (Wunderground puts temp at 91° at gametime)
KEYS TO THE GAME:
STOP THE RUN: Keep Driphus Jackson contained and force Rice to throw the ball. Get as much of a pass rush as possible and give the secondary the opportunity to create turnovers.
RUN THE BALL: This offense requires a strong running game. Don't make Seth Russell do it all through the air, even against a poor Rice secondary. We had 56 rushing attempts against Lamar. Let's get 50+ again.
LIMIT TURNOVERS: Short fields are anathema to a strong defensive effort, as we saw against Lamar. If the offense can keep from turning the ball over, the defense will have more success.
LET THE BIG DOG EAT: I am, of course, talking about Laquan McGowan. That's not a real key, just something I want to see.
