By the time you read this, the Bears will have begun the first of four games in four days against the Big 12's second place Cowboys. This could be a long weekend. The Bears will send Daniel Castano out against the best offense in the Big 12. As we have noted more than once Castano will certainly give us a chance, but with the Bear staff ranking 8th in the conference with a 5.13 ERA, the challenge presented this weekend is formidable.
It starts with Junior outfielder Corey Hassel who is hitting .324 and slugging .467. From there, there really is not a lot of drop off. Very few "outs" in that lineup, if any. In fact, the Cowboys are hitting 30 points higher as a team with 21 more team HRs and 100 more runs than the Bears at this point in the season.
While being the best hitting team in the Big 12 is tough enough, oSu also brings the league's second best pitching staff with a 2.72 ERA and holding opponents to .231 batting average.
In short, this is probably the most well-rounded team in the Big 12, and we are playing them on the road where we have been less than stellar all year. Of course, we did take a series from league leading OU, so we can certainly play with any team in the league in any given game. But, with UT's offense, which believe it or not is worse than ours, on the road in Kansas, we may actually fall into the Big 12's cellar after this weekend.
