The Trib has answers to Clarion Hotel questions.

The Trib has the news.

The Clarion Hotel Waco at South Fourth Street and Interstate 35 will close in mid-August, having been bought by a group that proposes to redevelop the site with stores and restaurants, sources that include the general manager of the 148-room property near Baylor University confirmed Tuesday.
"We really don’t have any immediate plans, but a property at that location demands something better than a Clarion Hotel," he said.

I know this is tough for those suddenly scrambling to find accommodation this fall, but in the bigger picture, this is just another example of how Baylor and McLane Stadium are reinvigorating Waco. Can you imagine somebody a decade ago scoffing at the idea of a Clarion Hotel across the highway from Baylor with other notable establishments like Long John Silver’s and Wendy’s?

With the new stadium, planned riverfront development, and now this, it's clear that serious money is being invested in turning Waco into a place that more I35 drivers want to stop and spend time in. It's hard to see how this is bad for Baylor. Even more exciting, I think both parties realize the benefits of cooperation.
