Compared to yesterday, today was fairly quite on the Baylor front. Three teams played, two won. Despite a valiant effort from Men's Tennis against No. 3 USC, the Bears fell in Southern Cal to prevent the perfect weekend from occurring. Still, with huge wins from MBB and Baseball and the Lady Bears advancing to the Championship Game once again, it has been a pretty dang good weekend to be a Baylor Bear.
In Season: MBB, WBB, Baseball, and Softball
Baylor Men's Basketball doesn't play until Wednesday, but that doesn't mean there still isn't news. Kenny Chery was honored as the Big 12 Player of the Week after his massive 29 point game at Kansas State. He takes home the fourth such award for the Bears this season. Isaiah Austin (1) and Cory Jefferson (2) also earned Player of the Week honors this season.

Slam-dunk specialist Two Sleeves was honored with a spot on the All-Big 12 third team, while Isaiah Austin and his blocks put him on the All-Defensive team in addition to an honorable mention on the All-Big 12 team.

No. 9 WBB Defeats No. 18 OSU in Big 12 Semifinals - BaylorBears.com
Oklahoma State would not go away in this game. Odyssey Sims continued her slight slump in scoring with only 17. Nonetheless, her defensive game did not suffer one bit from her decreased shooting percentages. Like she has in many a recent game, Nina Davis stepped up to fill the hole in scoring. Seriously, you cannot tell she is a freshman by the way she plays; this girl is phenomenal. Another point of note: Makenzie Robertson is excellent at getting into the path of a shooter and taking the charge call. It takes guts to go in there knowing you're going to take a hit from a bigger player. Props to Z for that. She had an incredibly important role in this game, even if the stats don't show it.

Baseball Wins Series Rubber Match vs. No. 4 Cal State Fullerton - BaylorBears.com
Baseball picks up a huge series victory as they down the Titans of Cal State Fullerton. The game began poorly; CSF brought two runners across home plate in the first inning. Thankfully, the Bears were able to put up five runs in the next two innings. Pitcher Austin Stone recovered from his shaky start to blank CSF for the remaining five innings he pitched.
Relief pitcher Daniel Castano quickly got into trouble, giving up two runs, but was able to tighten down and get a double play to end the inning. Neither team would score after that and the Bears went on to win, 5-4.
It is always a morale booster for a team to take a series from a better-ranked opponent. Hopefully the momentum continues when Baylor begins Big 12 play this weekend when it hosts Texas Tech. First, however, Baylor travels to Houston for one game against the Cougars on Tuesday.
Softball is enjoying Spring Break and will return later this week.
Off Season: Football

Men's Tennis Falls to No. 5 USC, 5-2 - BaylorBears.com
Baylor jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first two matches. Then, the Trojans played up to their ranking and swept the remaining five matches. Baylor will look to end their two-game slide on Wednesday versus No. 5 UCLA.

Baylor has a much more favorable match-up than previously thought. St. Joseph's are on a two-game losing streak and Wichita State are no Florida (I really hope that statement doesn't come back to bit me in a few weeks).
