Hey look, stats!
After a tough loss against a pretty good Illinois team, this game should provide the Bears a bit of a breather. Texas Southern's lone win came over Lamar, and they lost their other five by no fewer than double digits. 6-5 JR Cris Thomas leads the Tigers in scoring with 16 points per game, along with 6.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals. Senior guards Madarious Gibbs and Deverell Biggs (Gibbs and Biggs is an All-American level name duo) are the other double digit scorers with 11.3 and 10.8 points per game, respectively. As a team the Tigers are shooting .284 from three, not exactly setting the world on fire.
We'll see what sort of energy the Bears bring. This game is very, very winnable, but it could be tough to get up for a less than stellar opponent after the disappointment of coming in second in the Las Vegas Invitational. If they come out with purpose, the reserves should get some time on the court to close out the game. Prince, Deng, and Motley should all be able to make some impressive plays against far less athletic competition. Look for a big night from Baylor's wings.
If you're in Waco, be sure to get to the Ferrell Center to support your Bears!
