Thursday Daily Bears Report: Lady Bear Pointsplosion

Kim Mulkey shows no mercy and we should never forget how much we love her.

I was tied up in an elaborate nerf gun war last night, so I was unable to witness whatever happened in the Ferrell Center last night in person, but holy cow. Looking at highlights and the box score makes me believe that I'm in a dream state. Odyssey Sims played 26 minutes and scored 25 points, and the Lady Bears more than doubled Texas Tech in scoring.

In-Season News: Men's and Women's Basketball

MBB travels to Stillwater on Saturday to play the ever-dangerous Cowboys. Stillwater is bad place for Bears, and one we generally try to avoid. The game is at 1:00 on Saturday on ESPN. Perhaps the basketball gods will have mercy on us.

In much more exciting news, holy points.

Kim Mulkey is offended by this "mercy" you speak of. Baylor played fantastic defense, executed well on offense, and hit quite a few threes in the slaughter. You can't look at the court without seeing Makenzie Robertson moving faster than you thought possible, and I really can't offer much more insight than that. If this team continues to play the way they have the last few weeks, we could be looking forward to a deep tournament run in a team that is doing extraordinarily well under the leadership of Odyssey Sims.

Off-Season News: Football and Baseball

Football has a set date for the spring game: Saturday, April 5th. I'll be there watching Shawn Oakman destroy his fellow Bears, and hopefully you will be too. It'll be great to get a look at our JUCO transfers and early enrollees, especially those with the ability to make an immediate impact like CB Chris Sanders and WR/DB Davion Hall. Football is coming, friends. Stay strong.

With only 16 days remaining before we get the pleasure of lazing in the spring sun and watching America's most relaxing spectator sport, I can hardly contain my excitement. Baylor also received votes in the USA Today Coaches' Preseason Baseball Poll.

In Other News

In light of the tragedy at the site of McLane Stadium yesterday, university officials sent out an e-mail blast to students this morning. I'm not sure if alumni were sent the same message, but this is the message I received:

"Dear Baylor Family,

As you may already know, at approximately 4 p.m. yesterday, two men working on the pedestrian bridge at McLane Stadium fell from a construction barge into the Brazos River. One of the workers surfaced and was immediately taken to Providence Health Center where he was treated for hypothermia and later released. Waco Police and Waco Fire Department initiated a recovery mission for the second worker and later located the body of Jose Dario Suarez, who was pronounced deceased at 8:18 p.m.

This is a terrible tragedy that saddens us all. It is at difficult times like these that we are encouraged to remember that we serve a loving God who cares for the brokenhearted and is near to the downcast.

In an official University statement I have expressed our deepest sympathies to the Suarez family. I know that you will join me in continuing to remember in prayer Jose Suarez and all those whom he loved.

Ken Starr
President and Chancellor"

As the stadium continues to rise, we should keep Mr. Suarez's family in our thoughts and prayers. I know nothing about the man or his family, but I hope that the university will do something to honor him in the coming season.

In other news, the Breaking Madden Super Bowl will drop at some point today. We'll have the links for you when they surface. Have a splendid day, and go sic life like Shawn Oakman sic'd Wofford's offensive backfield.
