Sunday Daily Bears Report: Junior Day is Upon Us

An obscene amount of talent will be on campus today, and a commitment or two won't come as any surprise.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Today is Junior Day at Baylor University! Some of the nation's best football talents will be in Waco today getting a taste of everything Baylor has to offer. We're almost certain to get a few commitments for the 2015 class, and we'll probably make a few offers as well. All is well in the world of Baylor Athletics, save for men's basketball. Oh, men's basketball.

In-Season News: Men's and Women's Basketball

Yuck. I have a bad taste in my mouth even talking about men's basketball right now. After yesterday's loss to Texas, the Bears are on an 0-4 losing streak in conference play, losing by significant margins to teams that they very well could have beaten. Second half play continues to look monumentally sloppy, and the visiting team has been able to go on long scoring runs in the latter half of the past two home games. The team lacks spark, scoring ability, and the ability to make halftime adjustments, and the natives are restless. Action resumes on Tuesday against the 11-9 West Virginia Mountaineers in the Ferrell Center. Hopefully the score resembles the football game. Abysmal basketball, really. Just abysmal. Look, tweets. Read them so we can move on to happier news.

Women's basketball is in action today at 3:00 versus no. 8/9 Oklahoma State in Stillwater. The twelfth-ranked Lady Bears have dropped two of their last three to Kansas and Connecticut, and a win against the Cowgirls would go a long way towards yet another Big 12 title. The game pits Odyssey Sims against OSU's star guard, Tiffany Bias. you can catch the game on Fox Sports Southwest.

Offseason News: Football and Baseball

Junior Day is the most significant day of the offseason so far. There are way too many tweets about the talent coming in for the day to include here, so I've pulled a few of the highlights. Notably, WR Ryan Newsome will be in College Station for the day. This isn't ideal, but it's nothing to worry about and an inevitability of the recruiting game.

There will be updates aplenty throughout the day as we hear word from the event, which is closed to the public and the media. Brian Ethridge from BearsTruth hinted at big news dropping today, and I'm pretty sure Mark is in on it as well. The rest of us will just have to wait and watch.

Jamie Jacobs III will apparently carry on Ahmad Dixon's legacy. Here's to hoping the DE/LB will continue to bring pride to the jersey.

Baseball had their first official practice of 2014 today. The team was introduced during halftime at the Ferrell Center and received a warm welcome.

"Thought we'd have to rely on newcomers quite a bit this year but the returners really improved in offseason. It's encouraging that Coach Smith seems to have confidence in his veterans. The Bears' first home game is on February 18th against UT Arlington.

The Best of the Rest

Track published more results today than I could possibly hope to compile in a DBR, but the Speedy Bears reportedly had an excellent showing over two days at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet in Lexington, Kentucky.

Boy's got mad hops.

Men's tennis swept Boise State today in Waco. I would have loved to have been there, but I was at the much more depressing basketball game at the same time. A meeting with Auburn today at 3:00 will send the Bears to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a win.
