MBB Game 12: Oral Roberts Golden Eagles

Your #9 ranked Baylor Bears take on the ORU Golden Eagles tonight at the Ferrell Center

Cooper Neill

Scott Sutton takes one of his youngest teams to Waco tonight to face yet another top 15 program in the Baylor Bears. Sutton has done a fantastic job at ORU over the years, and yours truly attended many basketball camps under Sutton and his staff while growing up in Oklahoma. Sutton, for a while, was a perennial candidate to jump from the mid majors to a major conference with both the family pedigree and on-court success making him a desirable commodity. However, at this point, it seems he is content to overachieve consistently at a private Christian school in Tulsa, OK rather than make the jump like so many others with his track record have done.

This year's team is 6-6 but has faced stiff competition and fared well in most of their games. ORU is a team that should compete for the Southland conference championship led by Shawn Glover and Obi Emegano. Expect Emegano to light it up from three, and Glover to make several great basketball plays.

This team is much tougher than the Northwestern State team Baylor tried to lose to eight days ago, but I would be surprised to see the Bears come out as flat as they did against Northwestern State and Scott Drew actually has a solid record in December, which is typically a tough month to compete in with long periods without games, finals, holidays and the like.

I would expect this game to be close until about 15 minutes left. If Baylor wins by five or more in the end it will be a successful outing, anything else is not acceptable for a team that is starting to receive some dark horse final four talk.
