To the ODB Management

This morning I posted that I'd missed what had once been a major feature on ODB--the weekly report card. I suspected that the blog may have eaten into the time Mark once put into assigning grades, but hoped that the feature might make it into the Sunday podcast. To my surprise, both Mark and Peter replied to my post, and as I composed a rejoinder I realized that the ODB management needed to know a couple of things, to wit:

One of the best parts of ODB is that Mark (in general) and Peter (on podcasts) actually listen to what we ODB rank and file are saying/suggesting/critiquing. As long as we keep it constructive, they do a wonderful job keeping the community's interests in mind (and not simply running the blog, as some others do, as a personal fiefdom).

This reflects an even broader ODB reality: civility. It's extremely rare in the college sports blogosphere to find a community that is as civil as the one we enjoy. As far as I know, MCM has no standing orders about language, ad hominem attacks, and the like, but for the most part ODB posts are remarkably polite, well-written, and otherwise urbane. Yes, we all have our moments, but read through a Tech game thread and you'll see that there is a substantive difference. I'd like to think that this is a result of a Baylor education, but we all know that there are other BU boards where civility in not the rule. And when things do go off the rails, whether through the action of opposition trolls or as a result of our own failings and frustrations, the management carefully puts things right.

So, thank you and well done all. I appreciate the time that all the contributors put into making this a quality blog that has enhanced an amazing season. For us in the diaspora, ODB is a lifeline to a Baylor community that is difficult, or impossible, to find in Washington, or Tennessee, or Ohio, or wherever we've flung our green and gold afar.
