The records above are the Baylor Bears records from 2000 to 2009. That's 3 conference wins in the first 5 years. 11 in the first 10 years. The number of winning seasons? Zero. How bad were the Baylor Bears in the 2000's? I didn't even know they existed for years. I have lived in Texas since 2000 and I legitimately did not hear of the Bears at all until I was in high school. Texas Longhorns? Absolutely. TCU Horned Frogs? They were dominating! But that team down in Waco? Who's ever heard of Waco?
Baylor was the doormat of the Big XII. They didn't belong. That little private school in Waco was holding the conference down. The big boys in Austin and Norman were looking to move to greener pastures.
But something was brewing down in Waco. The Great Coach Art Briles was recruiting speed, bringing about a culture change at the oldest university in Texas, and beginning to change the fortunes of the University. No longer would Baylor be "scrubby" or "little". The Times They Are a-Changin'.
The last four years? 20 Big XII wins and counting. Four straight winning records. Four straight bowls. Two straight bowl victories. HeIIIsman. Art Briles' offense wages psychological warfare with F-22s. Phil Bennett's defense has been horrendous the last two years. But this year? They are being compared to Alabama. Alabama. Three championships in the last four years Alabama. Let that sink in for a moment.
Our first and second string running backs are out with injuries. One of our top receiver is out with injuries. So what do we do? Score 63 points with both our third and fourth string running backs going for over 100 yards.
We have another Heisman candidate. We are ranked number 3/4 in the nation. Not in the Big XII, the nation. We have a very real chance of going undefeated and playing in a BCS bowl with our first Big XII championship in hand. We could be playing for even more.
Appreciate this Baylor Nation. Appreciate this AMAZEBALLS run we are on. But don't become complacent either. The biggest game in Baylor's history coming up this Saturday. College GameDay will be there. Rumour has it that OSU is planning a blackout. It's a night game in Stillwater. It's essentially the Big XII Championship Game. The stakes could hardly be any higher right now.
Now we're here? I wouldn't say that just yet, but the destructive power of the 2013 Baylor Bears is closer to breaking down that wall than the 0.0013 points they trail Ohio State in the BCS polls by.
So enjoy the ride Bears, prove the haters wrong, and keep on climbing.
Sic OSU and Sic 'em Bears!
