The Baylor Bears buried Texas Tech 82-48 last night under interim head coach Jerome Tang, and moved to 2-0 in conference play. Pierre Jackson led the team with 18 points and 7 assists, and Brady Heslip looked like he might be coming out of his slump, scoring 11 points with 3 of 4 shooting from 3-point range. ESPN's Andy Katz tweeted that if this Baylor team shows up to every conference game, the rest of the league should worry, as the talent and athleticism is definitely there.
ESPN's David Ubben has the seasons-end report card for Baylor Football, grading the offense extremely highly and the defense, as to be expected, not as much. He also says that Baylor had perhaps the most impressive bowl, blowing out a ranked UCLA team, and might have been the best team in the Big 12 at the end of the season. It's only 8 months until the first game of next season, everyone, and the Orlando Sentinel put Baylor as the 24th ranked team going into that next season.
The top-ranked Lady Bears host 25th-ranked Iowa State tonight at the Ferrell Center at 7:00 PM, and this game will be televised on FSSW. Baylor looks to break the record for conference winning streak tonight by winning their 25th straight game against the Cyclones, and to move to 13-1 on the season.
Baylor WBB's Mariah Chandler is the Spotlit Student Athlete for the week on the Big 12 official website. Chandler, a redshirt junior, was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome at a young age, a condition that affects the electrical impulses that control the heart's function. Chandler's experience with the difficulties and hardships WPW causes has influenced her and her basketball playing, and her attitude and story has had an affect on her teammates.
