Daily Bears Report 01.04.2013

USA TODAY Sports

With yesterday's news that Baylor Football's contract with Nike is being upgraded to "Tier 1" status, ODB had some discussion on possible changes to next year's football uniforms.

Baylor men's basketball starts their conference schedule tomorrow against Texas. The Bears will host the Longhorns at the Ferrell Center for a 1:00 PM game televised nationally on ESPNU, and look to start their conference slate strong after their last loss to no. 13 Gonzaga. Baylor has an 11 game winning streak against in-state opponents and hopes to continue that despite head coach Scott Drew sitting out this game and the next as part of self-imposed penalties for minor NCAA violations found last season.

Both Baylor men's and women's tennis open their spring season ranked no. 15 in their respective ITA polls, lower rankings than either team normally receives. However, both coaches say that their goals are not impacted by the preseason rankings and the only ranking numbers they care about are the end-of-season. Baylor women's tennis hopes to win their 8th Big 12 regular season title in the past 9 years and Baylor men's tennis looks to win their 11th Big 12 regular season title in the last 14 years, as well as advance farther in the NCAA tournament.
