Daily Bears Report 01.31.2013

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

Brittney Griner broke the Big 12 career scoring record in style last night, leading the Lady Bears to a 90-60 win over Texas Tech in Lubbock. Griner scored the first four points of the night to break Andrea Riley's (OSU) record, and went on to have her fourth career 40-point game, and her 51st double-double, grabbing 15 rebounds. The last two points of her 40 came on a two-handed dunk with 2:37 left in the game, her 12th career and 4th on the season. Brooklyn Pope also scored in double figures, adding 14 for the Lady Bears.

Isaiah Austin had a huge game in a heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma last night, scoring 19 points and grabbing 20 rebounds, while Pierre Jackson scored 22 points. The Sooners led from the 2nd minute of the game, were up by 14 at the half, and despite Baylor's offensive heroics in the second half, took home the win after Brady Heslip's attempted buzzer-beater rimmed out. Post-game analysis shows that Heslip's foot might have been on the three point line, anyway, and the Bears lost 74-71, only their second conference loss this season.

Baylor will host their Baseball Luncheon and National Signing Day Reception on Wednesday, February 6th starting at 11:00 AM in the Allison Indoor Practice Facility. The Baseball Luncheon will occur first, previewing the 2013 iteration of the team that went to the NCAA SuperRegionals last year, then coaches will announce their 2013 signing class, starting with Baylor Soccer, then Baylor Track and Field, and ending with 2012 Holiday Bowl Champions Baylor Football. Speaking of recruiting, Baylor's Art Briles is considered one of the best recruiters in the nation ($) by ESPN's Travis Haney.

Baylor Soccer promoted former assistant coach Paul Jobson to Co-Head Coach alongside his wife, current Baylor Head Coach Marci Jobson. The Jobsons have worked together to field the strongest Baylor Soccer teams in program history, winning both the Big 12 and the Big 12 Tournament last year, as well as advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
