Happy New Year, everyone! EDIT: And now it's actually the new year.

The Baylor Lady Bears started out conference play with a win over TCU last night, defeating the Horned Frogs 74-35 in Fort Worth last night. The Lady Bears started the game uncharacteristically sluggishly, but the Brittney Griner dunk five minutes into the game sparked an offensive charge where Baylor scored 20 unanswered points. Baylor's next game is this Sunday, the 6th, at 4:30 PM against Oklahoma State.

According to a ESPN's Chad Miller, NBA scouts say that Isaiah Austin right now compares to a "poor man's Kevin Durant," with his 7-1 frame being negated by his lack of strength. If Austin decides to only play one year of college basketball, and he can consistently show the level of skill that he played with against Gonzaga, he could be a top-10 pick, but if he falters at all his stock may fall considerably. Also in men's basketball news, White Station (Tenn.) 2014 star Leron Black has decommitted from Baylor and will be fielding offers from other schools. The Baylor Bears play next against Texas in the first game of conference play on January 5th at 1:00 PM. This game will be televised on ESPNU.

David Ubben has the best and worst of Baylor Football from the 2012 season up on the ESPN Big 12 Blog and I can't really say that I disagree with him. Stomping on UCLA 49-19 was nice, but taking down Kansas State when our only conference win was over Kansas was better.

Finally, Waco businesses look forward to the opening of the new Baylor Stadium both with anticipation and trepidation, especially in regards to parking on game days. I honestly think that downtown businesses should look at what Arlington business are doing for their stadiums-spend a certain amount of money, put the receipt on the dashboard, and you can park there for the day.
