Daily Bears Report 01.22.2013

USA TODAY Sports

Last night on Big Monday the Bears put on a show for the ESPN cameras, defeating the Oklahoma State Cowboys 64-54. Isaiah Austin had his 7th double-double for Baylor with 10 points and 14 rebounds, along with 5 blocks. Baylor tied its record for blocks in a Big 12 game with 11, 6 by Cory Jefferson in addition to the 5 by Austin. Baylor's physical game against OSU caused one RantSports writer to pick Baylor as a NCAA sweetheart team, but cautions that inconsistencies in play may cause an unhappy early exit.

Brittney Griner was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the 24th time in her career after her 29 points at Kansas State and a close miss of a triple double (26 pts, 15 rbd, 9 blk) at home against West Virginia last week. This is Griner's 5th time for the award this season, and needs only 40 points to become the Big 12's all time leading scorer. She also made her 700th free-throw, moving to second in Big 12 career records. She already holds the Big 12 record for blocks, and is 22 blocks away from the all time NCAA record.

Speaking of the Lady Bears, they were voted No. 1 in the nation for the third consecutive week after their conference wins over Kansas State and West Virginia. The Lady Bears are at Iowa State this Wednesday and return home Saturday to face Oklahoma.
