Daily Bears Report 01.15.2013

USA TODAY Sports

Baylor men's basketball fell to no. 4 Kansas last night, 61-44, on ESPN's Big Monday. The Bears' first conference loss came partially because of their season-worst shooting percentage, with Big 12 leading scorer Pierre Jackson being held to 2 for 12 from the field and 10 points, well below his average of 19 points per game. Isaiah Austin led Baylor with 15 points with 11 rebounds, and Rico Gathers had 13 rebounds in 22 minutes of play. The Bears come home to face non-conference foe Hardin-Simmons University this Saturday, in the first game of a men's-women's doubleheader. Baylor head coach Scott Drew says that his self-imposed suspension a few games ago allowed him to analyze his team's performance without in-game stresses, and hopes to use that information in the future to help the team's performance.

Brittney Griner earned her 23rd Big 12 weekly honor this week after her 33 point performance at Kansas on Sunday afternoon. Griner holds the record for career women's basketball weekly honors and has earned her fourth such award for the season. The Lady Bears also stayed at their position on top of the women's top-25 poll for the second week, gathering 34 first-place votes.

David Ubben has some bold predictions for Big 12 football in 2013, including a not-so-bold prediction that Baylor will win 8 games for the third year in a row.

Finally, if you get a remote control helicopter for Christmas, don't fly it around your dorm. It's just a bad idea.
