It's a bit of a slow sports day, as all Baylor teams are off until tomorrow.
Pierre Jackson was recently named to two midseason award watch lists, the Wooden award and the Cousey award. Jackson, a senior from Las Vegas, has scored in double figures in his last 22 games, the longest active streak in the Big 12, and he also leads the conference in scoring and ranks second in assists. The Wooden award is presented to the best men's college basketball player in a season, and the Cousey award is for the Collegiate Point Guard of the Year.
Baylor Track and Field opens their 2013 indoor season at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday. Though both teams hope to finish highly, coach Todd Harbour views this as a diagnostic meet before the Big 12 season gets started. Though the women's team has veteran leadership and experience, the men's team is young this year, and looks to begin their time at Baylor strongly. The Baylor women come into the season with a preseason ranking of 15.
GIF TOURNAMENT III is still moving along smoothly, with the second round of voting happening today.
