They say patience is a virtue for a reason, and Baylor fans need to be patient. Coming off a game the majority of the country probably viewed as us struggling in the first half against a cupcake -- though they should know better-- I didn't think it at all likely that Baylor would be ranked in this week's SB Nation Blog Poll. I was right. We are not. The only purpose for this sentence is to provide a link to the analysis portion of the Poll so you can reference it later.
Instead we remain patiently in the "Others Receiving Votes" category, listed third in such behind ... Iowa State?
[Deep breath] Iowa State is ranked ahead of us in the Blog Poll. Mostly on the strength of one fifth-place vote. From the Iowa blog. This is officially not funny anymore. If you're not going to take the Poll seriously, don't participate. You cannot make a good argument, regardless of the system you use, for Iowa freaking State being the fifth-best team in the country. Stop it.
Moving on, upon further investigation it appears Baylor had a real chance of jumping into the Poll this week as other teams fell. We finished third in the "receiving votes" category by virtue of appearing on 20 of 90 ballots. The problem was that though some moved us up into the rankings (that's more ballots than we appeared on last week), several also moved us down. Apparently, they were not impressed by our 38-3 second half. Had a few of those voters stuck with their positions from last week, we might have sneaked in at 24 or 25. But we didn't and that's fine. Reasonable minds can differ on that point. But not on Iowa State.
Otherwise it appears that ODB had a pretty good week with the Poll. I'm somewhat surprised to see Northwestern jump in, but we have a lot of B1G blogs, so I won't belabor that point. I think Texas at 12 is too high, predictably. The people that are voting them third, for example, are being patently absurd based on what we've seen. What about throttling Ole Miss makes Texas worthy of a jump of 14 spots? And you, Tom Fornelli, you're supposed to be better than that.
Speaking of UT and ND, how not shocked are you that each school has two blogs that made the most biased list? There's only 5 spots on the list and those two schools have 4 of them!
Check out the poll below the jump and give me your thoughts. On the whole, I'd say it's definitely better than either the AP or the Coaches, but that's like saying it's the tallest little person.
