Daily Bears Report 09.17.2012

So this is a thing now.
So this is a thing now.

A few things about being at the game: the weather was lovely, the officiating was just as bad in person as it was televised, and though the Line wasn't as big as it was at the first game, it was still larger than the biggest Line my freshman year.

As you all know (I hope, by now) Baylor defeated SHSU 48-23 on Saturday, though SHSU held the 20-10 lead going into the half. It really was like an entirely different team came out on the field for the second half, including a defense that scored some points of their own, after realizing that they needed to take SHSU seriously. It took the whole team to win, and that last link includes this priceless line "Sam Houston proved that even though it can’t spell its mascot’s name correctly, it could be a force in the ball game, tying the score at three." I couldn't have said it better myself, Lariat.

Eamonn Brennan breaks down the Baylor Men's Basketball team's "Three Big Things" before this season begins for ESPN. One of the nicest little bits in there is that he calls Coach Drew an "elite recruiter." Another thing? Brady Heslip outshot the rest of the country last year.

Baylor Soccer defeated Houston Baptist on Sunday 5-0, making head coach Marci Jobson the winningest coach in program history. Jobson's 49th win as coach also marks the seventh shutout the Bears have held of the season, and brings their overall record to 8-1-1. Baylor scored 5 times despite the match being called after 70 minutes due to poor field conditions.

Baylor Volleyball has won their last 9 matches in a row with sweeps of both UTEP and Tulane at the Katy Troclair Memorial Tournament, picking up their third tournament title of the year. The Bears are 13-1 on the season and play next at North Texas tomorrow night, before opening Big 12 play at Iowa State on the 22nd.

Baylor Women's Golf heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico today to play in the McGuire Invitational after a second place finish in last week's season opener. The two-day event will be hosted on the UNM Championship course (par 73).

Finally, the next Baylor Football game is this Friday at ULM, so plan accordingly! Game time is 7:06 PM on ESPN.
