Daily Bears Report: 08.27.2012

Just a regular guy.
Just a regular guy.

It's good to be back after a weekend with no internet, especially with 6 days until game day!

The San Antonio Express-News is all about Baylor football today, publishing three articles across the last day and a half. In what sounds like it could be the formula for a Hollywood winner, Nick Florence is cast as the normal, brown-socked guy stepping into the post-Heisman spotlight left by his larger-than-life predecessor. Art Briles, however, makes it very clear that "We'll let Nick be Nick. Nick being Nick is good enough for us." Depressingly, their "Bold Prediction" is that Baylor only goes 5-7 and misses out on a bowl game. Not much of a "Bold Prediction," there. (My friend's is that Baylor goes undefeated.) Even David Ubben of the ESPN Big 12 blog thinks Baylor will make the Holiday Bowl in New York, and has some bold predictions of his own.

Baylor Volleyball swept the Fairfield Inn North Baylor Classic this weekend, winning 3-1 over both Nevada and Tulane to claim the title. Their next three games will be in Hawaii for the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic. The Bears return to Waco on September 4th at 7:00 PM for a game against Texas State.

Baylor Soccer lost a heartbreaking OT match to (15) Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon, despite controlling possession of the ball for most of the 1st half. The Bears return home to host Nebraska on Friday at 7:00 PM.

Finally, three Baylor Baseball alum updates: 1B Max Muncy (Burlington Bees, Oakland) went 3-4 with 2 doubles on Sunday, RHP Brooks Pinckard (Bakersfield Blaze, Cincinnati) threw his third straight scoreless outing with a perfect inning on Sunday, and RHP Jeff Mandel (Syracuse Chiefs, Washington) threw a complete game shut out. Not a bad day for Baylor Baseball alumni!
