Nine days!
Baylor Volleyball plays their season opener tonight in the Ferrell Center against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first round of the Fairfield Inn North Baylor Classic. The Bears are 2-0 all time against the Islanders and hope to continue adding to the win column. Last season, Baylor earned the program's fourth bid to the NCAA tournament and their second in the last three years.
BaylorBears.com has an essay-like preview of this year's team, with quotes from Art Briles and a breakdown of the current depth chart. NCAAFootball.com also previews the 2012 edition of the Bears. The thing is, even our own sports website is unsure that Baylor can move beyond 6-6. Of course, maybe a little cautious realism means that if excellence happens, surprise will make it even sweeter.
The Baylor soccer team is getting a taste of sun, cooler temperatures, and possibly surf on their 2 game road trip to California. The 24th-ranked Bears play Cal State Northridge today at 9:00 CT (audio on BaylorBears.com). They then take on (15) Long Beach State on Sunday, and hope to keep their undefeated record alive through the weekend. The Bears' next game at home is August 31st against Nebraska.
Finally, a rocket carrying a Baylor engineering designed experiment will head up into space today from Wallops Island, VA. Baylor and a team from Virginia Tech designed detectors to measure nitric oxide and atmospheric dust, among other elements. Pretty cool to think of BU in space.
