It's preseason watch list season in college football, and another Baylor player has been honored. The John Mackey Award is given every year to the nation's top tight end, and junior Jordan Najvar made the cut to 33 on the preseason list. Najvar, who hails from Spring, Texas, transferred to Baylor after spending one year at Stanford and will be Baylor's primary tight end (insomuch as we use one) in the 2012 season.
Najvar is one of two Big 12 players to make the cut with Kansas senior Mike Ragone, something I find fairly interesting given our offensive style (the spread) and the fact that we recently missed out on a top TE recruit over concerns that we don't use our TEs enough. Perhaps this kind of honor for Najvar may help dispel similar notions among other recruits.
Here's the Baylor release on Najvar being named to the list.
