Random NBA Draft Musings at T-3.5 Hours

The latest update from "Full Court Press," BaylorBears.com's basketball blog run by Chris Yandle, contains all of the latest mock drafts as of this morning and a little more information about Baylor's draft history. You should check it out. For the sake of keeping the front page here clean, I've put the mock board itself below the jump. I'll put a few thoughts above it to fill the post out a bit.

  • I posted the rumor earlier that there is concern over Perry Jones III's knee and my belief that it is a smokescreen intended to drive down his value. I still think that, and I think it's working. Chad Ford's latest has him at 23 in the first round, down from 16 earlier about four hours ago. There seem to be several teams convinced that he won't make it past 20 based on their comments, but we'll have to see how this knee thing affects the thinking. I have a hard time believing that any team wanting Perry in that range: a) didn't already know about any problem he might have, and b) would change their mind about him at this point in the process.
  • A team to watch for Perry might be Houston, who has three picks in the 12-20 range and is thought to be stocking up for a run at Dwight Howard from Orlando. The Magic are supposed to be keen on Perry's potential, so Houston could take him there as part of an offer. The Magic pick at #19, so they may just hope he falls so they can pick him for themselves. Most mocks have them tied to Terrence Jones if he gets past Dallas at 17.
  • Really looks like Golden State is the match for Quincy Miller, and they might have been the team whose rumored promise convinced him to change his mind about coming back. I don't have any real thoughts about Golden State other than that they suck, have always sucked, and will probably continue to suck. They have a few picks in this draft, so maybe they can suck a little less and/or be more interesting while sucking.
  • I really hope Quincy Acy is drafted. I know he's a man without a position, but I guarantee you that he will do something positive at some point in every game he plays. To use Bill Simmons' metaphor, he may not put much on the table, but he won't take anything off it and will work as hard as humanly possible to get better.
  • The following players are going to go below the top 15 and make people say "Can't believe ___ fell that far!" 5 years from now: PJ3, Jared Sullinger, and Terrence Jones.
  • The Open Thread for the Draft will go up one hour before the Draft begins. That means 5:30 CST for those. The Draft itself is on ESPN.

Check out my "official" prediction (based on nothing) at the very bottom of this post below the jump.
