Baylor Football Recruiting: Two New Offers Go Out

The first is much more recent-- as in today -- than the second. It is also much less probable to come to a good result. Vanderdoes, a 4* DE from Placer, California, holds offers from just about every BCS school in the country including Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Oregon, Penn State, and now Baylor. If he ended up coming here, I wouldn't be shocked; I'd be flabbergasted. Normally I wouldn't even report an offer like this because the chances are too slim for something positive to happen, but in this case I thought it noteworthy because it reflects a growing trend in our 2013 recruiting; Baylor is not messing around. Briles and Bennett are determined to find talent wherever it is hidden and make the best argument they can for that talent to come to Baylor, period. I am and will always be in favor of swinging for the fences. What is the worst that can happen-- they say no?

The second recent offer went to Mineola LB/RB Dac Shaw. Shaw started both ways for the Yellow Jackets as a junior this past season after playing only on defense the year before. He served as the primary RB in Mineola's attack this past year, amassing 1400+ yards and 28 TDs, in addition to anchoring the defense with 90 tackles. In this article from 247Sports, Shaw's coach mentioned that Baylor was the first to offer the 6-2.5, 205 pound standout with TCU following shortly thereafter (his comments about how that worked out are worth the sub in case you don't have one already). Texas has apparently also shown recent interest.

Shaw could be part of a LB class for Baylor that is already shaping up to be one of the best the school has ever seen. With Travon Blanchard and DJ Green already in the fold and Paul Whitmill (Bastrop, TX), Raquaan Davis (Rockwall, TX), and Mike Mitchell (Plano, TX) all holding Baylor offers and (reportedly) favoring the Bears, this could be a special class, indeed.

UPDATE: I put Shaw's sophomore and junior highlight videos below the jump.
